So once again I am starting off yet another post by apologising for not being active recently. I had a rather dramatic end to 2015 with a lot of things going on in my life which meant I had to put a lot of things on hold, but I’m here, healthy and happy for a brand new year which has a lot of positive things in store.
So I kind of missed the deadline for summing up my favourite trends, events and runway shows of 2015, so let’s focus on what’s to come in 2016 instead, how exciting.
I’ve chose to enter 2016 with a completely different perspective of how I usually enter a new year, I’m now excited rather than scared for what the new year has planned for me. Each year I’ve always looked at January as the ‘dreaded month’, the concept of not knowing has always petrified me. I will admit I’ve never been quite the optimist, but this year I plan to make a lot of changes, which so far are going surprisingly well! Number 1 change: Blog regularly!
Okay maybe it’s number 2, after ‘Focus on university’
So, fashion! With New York Fashion Week kicking off in just over a months time, 11th February, I don’t know about everyone else but I am giddy with anticipation and excitement to see what trends will be filling my wardrobe for Fall 2016! Now I know we’re still in Winter, and a lot of you are probably more looking forward to stripping into your swimwear and Spring/Summer attire, but if you know me, you know Winter trends are what I live for.
After the Pre Fall 2016 collections, it’s hard not to burst with eagerness. I couldn’t resist adding images from my favourites from the November/December shows.
Maiyet – For the brooding downtown fixture. The vibe accompanying this collection was bohemian, but a certain no-nonsense-ness pervaded and gave the collection as a whole an urbane edge.
Rosetta Getty – Now, I’m very much a monochrome type of girl, but I never turn down a good simplistic pastel colour all year around, especially being pale, it’s difficult to find colours which don’t drain you, so pastels are as colourful as mu wardrobe gets. This collection from Rosetta Getty is perfect for the luxe minimalist.
Jason Wu – A fashion house which does it right for me every season. Again, I’m a sucker for pastels, and although patterns are usually a danger zone for me, the feminine, gentle look of this entire collection makes it look so well. The collection defines a polished romantic.
Chanel – Now my previous blog post focuses on the most recent Chanel collection, so if you want specifics just take a gander to my next blog post. But if elusive rebel is your image, you may definitely want to take inspiration from this heavily embroider collection.
Burberry – Simple, yet detailed whilst maintaining elegance and class, Christopher Bailey’s first collection under Burberry’s single label drew on iconic pieces from past decades with the 70’s remaining relevant in this luxurious presentation. With military influences, cropped jackets were emblazoned with brass buttons while a youthful play on military-esque pieces.
But before the 4 biggest weeks of the year in the fashion world, comes my personal favourite, Paris Haute Couture S/S16. The week in which my whole life gets put on hold whilst I camp in front of my laptop from morning until night, praying one day my wardrobe will be the home to a collection of Zuhair Murad and Elie Saab gowns, placed nicely next to my Christian Dior black cashmere trapeze and Chanel sandals, a girl can dream.
The week starts off on Sunday 24th with Atelier Versace being the only show of the day, followed by a brimful Monday, with collections from Schiaparelli, Christian Dior, Ralph & Russo, Giambattista Valli, and the list goes on. (Find the week’s schedule here), continuing through until 29th.
What is a high fashion blog, without the big red carpet events to go along with it, where we can analyse all of our favourite (and not so favourite) stars in the biggest fashion houses? Award season is upon us! This Sunday, the Golden Globes will fire the starting gun on a red-carpet season that will rev up again next week with the Oscar nominations announcement.
So I just wanted to fill you in on whats been happening in my life and what we have got to look forward to for the new year. Expect to be seeing a lot more of me as I have no excuse for a lack of content!
I’ve added a few ‘Save the Dates’ below of ‘important’ fashion events, if you like, for 2016, so be sure to make a note so you don’t miss a thing!
Happy New Year everyone, I wish you all the best for 2016 and make this a year to remember.
