If you ask most fashion lovers what the next major date on their calendar is, it will no doubt be November 5th, the release of Olivier Rousteing’s collaboration with high street retailer H&M. So with just 15 days to go until the collection goes live, it is time to start planning what pieces you’re going to try and get your hands on!
It was this time last year high fashion lovers over the world were preparing themselves for the highly anticipated H&M x Alexander Wang collection. The last diffusion collection injected the spirit of that brand in an abstract way into mass street-meets-sportswear. Before the collection had even went live, H&M stores all over the globe had never-ending queues outside the unopened stores and the website had already crashed, hence the “try and get your hands on!”. It goes without saying this year it is going to be no different.
For many, Balmain has become the iconic brand known as the Kardashians “go-to” outfits, and since Kendall Jenner helped debut Olivier Rousteing’s collection at the Billboard Awards, I have been counting down the days until I can nab one of its lust-worthy, hand-beaded dresses for myself!
The collection enables us all to steal entire outfits from fashion icons such as Alexa Chung, Kylie Jenner and Diane Kruger without going bankrupt. Looking at the collection closely, many pieces look identical to those from the fashion house’s previous collections throughout the years. A double-breasted black velvet jacket with pearl and diamante embroidery, (seen on Kendall Jenner on the red carpet) looks like a replica from the the A/W12 collection. Scrunched silk miniskirts featured in the A/W13 collection. And tight-fitting, semi-transparent navy top ornately laddered with horizontal ropes of silk is lifted from relatively recent A/W14 catwalk.
2012 or 2015, the beauty of Balmain is it is luxuriously timeless.
Since the announcement of the collaboration, Olivier has done nothing if not keep us excited, with a striking campaign featuring big names like Kendall, Gigi and Jourdan, and not to mention a music video to go along with it! It has been hard to take my mind off the upcoming collection!
This is not H&M’s cheapest collaboration, with a few items surpassing the £400 mark. But there are still many items under £100 for those of us with a champagne taste on a beer budget, or, well you know, Balmain taste on an H&M budget. Prices start around £12 for accessories, but scale up to £299.99 for a leather jacket or £399.99 for the iconic embroidered jacket and an embellished dress seen worn by Gigi Hadid. Other items sit comfortably around the £50 margin.
The idea behind this post, initially, was to talk about my must-haves from the new HM x Balmain collection, but after viewing all of the pieces, I figured it would be simply impossible to narrow down my favourites as the entire collection is to die for.
So instead, I thought I would just share all the beautiful pieces with those of you who haven’t seen it so you can all share my excitement. Enjoy, and get ready to fight for your pieces!
