The 87th Annual Oscars are over. The weeks of excitement we all spent talking about who would wear what – and the awards of course (not really), are now no secret, but that doesn’t mean we won’t continue to talk about it for weeks later.
The Oscars took place on Sunday, where we seen Birdman win four oscars, including Best Picture, Eddie Redmayne won best actor for his role in “The Theory of Everything” (truly deserved) and Julianne Moore won best actress for “Still Alice.” But, who took home the award for best dressed?
Let’s be honest, at least half of us only really get exited for them weeks in advance because we can’t wait to see what trends will be walking down the red carpet, and after this year’s haute couture collections, who can blame us?
I could spend 5000 words talking about the 9 Versace dresses, the 6’000 pears on Lupita N’yongo’s Custom Calvin Klein, the 80’000 hand-painted sequins coating Oscar winner Julianne Moore’s Chanel Haute Couture gown (designed by Karl Lagerfeld, sewn by 27 people and finished in 987 hours) or Rosamund Pike’s Givenchy gown (which, trust me, I could talk about for hours). But I’m not going to, as you can find that everywhere else.
What I am going to talk about is Elie Saab’s appearances at this years Annual Oscars. After his outstanding Haute Couture show earlier last month, I have since been itching to see who would turn up in one of the angelic gowns at the awards, and I was not disappointed.
Though I am a J-Lo fan, she has never been a personal One to Watch on the red carpet, but recently I have just been proven wrong. After arriving at the Golden Globes in Zuhair Murad this year – which will always be one of my all time faves – I was excited to see what she would strut in wearing, then came a familiar collaboration that makes my heart melt every time, J-Lo and Elie Saab.
I’d like to say I could contain my excitement, but that would be a lie.
She stunned in 2013 when wearing Elie Saab A/W 13-14 to attend the Viva Movil By Jennifer Lopez Flagship Store Celebration and again in 2014 at the Teen Choice Awards where she wore a short green dress from Saab’s Spring 2014 collection. But this year she has seriously outdone herself.
J-Lo floated down the red carpet in one of Saab’s Fall/Winter 2014 pieces. With layers of romantic nude-hued tulle were speckled with monochromatic beading from the deep cut neckline, falling all the way past the waistline, which was outfitted in the chicest and most slim belt.
Elie Saab has been my ultimate favourite designer since, well, forever, so I kind of have high expectations. With such feminine and fairy-tale like designs, I can only hope the dresses are paired with the person to match.
Okay, so Jennifer may have experienced most girl’s worst nightmare, and arrived to find out that she was wearing an almost identical dress as Robert Duvall’s wife, Luciana (when I say ‘girl’s worst nightmare, I was thinking more on the lines of prom, or a party, not the Oscars of course). Pretty much every dress Elie Saab sends down his runway is red carpet-worthy, so it’s not surprising that two women would reach for the same gown, but turning up in the same dress as J-Lo, now that’s got to be embarrassing.
Never the less, the attention was still completely on J-Lo, and surprisingly I don’t think anybody really noticed!
Elie Saab’s red carpet fame didn’t end there, and who better matches the feminine, delicate and elegance – which is very much ‘Signature Saab‘ – more than actress Emma Stone. Also topped the Best Dressed list and who would be surprised?
Emma Stone is probably one of my most favorite stars to see on any red carpet. Her fashion risk-taking always pays off, so it’s no surprise that she stunned once again on Sunday. Though the night was really all about her nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Birdman,” I can’t stop thinking about her dress.
The star is also familiar with Saab’s designs, after appearing at 3 separate events in 2012 wearing Saab designs each time! And it has only gotten better.
Wearing a custom long-sleeved Elie Saab in a uniquely beautiful golden chartreuse shade. You can never go wrong with a redhead in green. Especially if that redhead is Emma Stone!
And of course, there has got to be a mention to the women daring enough to turn up in the same dress as Jennifer Lopez. Actress and film director Luciana Duvall – wore a remarkably similar gown in a slightly darker shade and without the belt.
But anyone going up against J-Lo is going to be in for a hard time, it’s inevitable, but I personally think she looked amazing.
I can’t wait to see more Elie Saab appearances throughout the year, the bar has been set pretty high and it’s only February!
